Common skin complaints such as acne and wrinkles can be annoying at best, and at worst make sufferers’ lives a nightmare. The loss of confidence that acne sufferers of all ages suffer, and the appearance of wrinkles, can sometimes ruin people’s lives. For those who don’t suffer severe cases of these skins problems, it can still result in embarrassment in going out, or only leaving the house with make-up on.
One of Dr Kaplan and Dr Yee’s skincare solutions is LED light therapy. The light emitting diode (LED) therapy is also known as photodynamic therapy (PDT) and involves exposing the skin to these lights to help to combat acne and signs of aging. The good thing about LED light therapy is that it is non-evasive and painless.
Whilst a good skincare routine is the best way to keep acne at bay and reduce signs of aging such as wrinkles, all is not lost if you do happen to develop these common skin complaints, have tired looking skin, or have had them for a while.
Acne and Congested Skin
The blue LED light is used to combat acne. The specific wavelengths of the blue light creates oxygen radicals which kill the bacteria that is the most common for creating acne, but won’t damage healthy skin. It is best for mild to moderate inflammatory acne. It is a great option for those who don’t get on with conventional creams and lotions and it won’t cause dryness or peeling. The blue light is also great for calming and relaxation.
It is important to be aware, however that the blue LED light therapy is not suitable for cystic acne, whiteheads or blackheads.
Skin Rejuvenation and Anti-Aging
The red LED light is used to fight against wrinkles and for skin rejuvenation. The waves of the red light help the skin to retain the elements that it needs to be able to heal and create new collagen and elastin – which is lacking as we grow older. The red light is also known to target the oil glands in the skin, reducing the production of a substance which is believed to cause acne.
It can improve circulation, skin laxity and is also excellent for those with sensitive skin – those who are prone to eczema, rosacea and psoriasis for example.
LED light therapy can be done as a treatment on its own, or as a part of a complete facial. It is completely safe and involves exposing the skin to the LED light colours for a short amount of time. You will probably need more than one session to really feel the benefits of this therapy.
Whether you are suffering from acne, signs of aging, sun spots, or even just need to rejuvenate your skin, an LED light therapy session could be just what you need. A few short sessions and you will really begin to see a difference – with clearer, younger looking and healthier skin.
