In 2001, Dr. Kaplan developed the method of under-the-muscle breast augmentation using local anesthesia and relaxing medications. In 2004, the Journal of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery published his article and the Academy of Cosmetic Surgery has asked him to speak at several national conferences. Since then, he has been featured in Cosmetic Surgery Times, a news magazine for cosmetic surgeons. Despite many plastic surgeons saying this procedure is impossible, Dr. Kaplan has repeatedly demonstrated that it is not only possible, but it is, in fact, safer and requires less recovery time.
Is Breast Augmentation Right for Me?

Women everywhere are opting for breast implant surgery in order to:
- Sculpt a better body contour
- Make breasts more symmetrical
- Increase breast size after pregnancy
- Feel more satisfied with their body
What Does Breast Augmentation Involve?
Breast augmentation is a fairly straightforward procedure. Typically, a surgeon will make a small incision under the breast. They will then insert the predetermined shape and size breast implant underneath the muscle. Since Kaplan and Yee utilize tumescent anesthesia, a patient will be able to remain awake and give feedback as to the shape and size of the breasts and modifications can be made as needed. After the patient and surgeon are satisfied, the incisions are closed and the patient is free to go. Read more about expectations here.
How Safe Is the Procedure?
Safety is the primary concern for any surgery, especially cosmetic surgery. Dr. Kaplan had performed 1000 breast augmentation surgeries using his method and for the last six years, Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Yee operating together have performed over 700 more. Dr. Kaplan always provides free consultations and conducts the educational and informational session himself.
It is his goal to evaluate the patient to determine the best procedure and work with the patient to achieve the right look and fit. There is no guess work involved in the procedure. While some practices might discourage patient input, Dr. Kaplan’s consultation before, during, and after the procedure ensures that the patient is most likely to agree with the final result.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The patient is given topical anesthesia and the implants are inserted under the muscles of the breast area. The surgery is performed while the patient is awake and once the implants are placed, the patient is brought to a sitting position where she can view the results. During this time, modifications can still be made. The patient may also have a spouse, friend, or family member present to provide input. This tends to give the patient more confidence that she has made the right decision.
What to Expect After the Procedure
Typically, the patient will walk out of the office about 15 minutes after the end of the breast augmentation is complete. There is also not any pain since the anesthesia is still in effect. In fact, it will be 4-6 hours before the anesthetic has worn off which allows the patient to begin taking pain medication before the pain sets in. Therefore, the patient will not have any gap in pain relief as they would in procedures utilizing traditional methods of anesthesia. This is one of the key differences that set the Kaplan and Yee practice apart from others.
Why Choose Kaplan and Yee?
Thanks to the innovative methods pioneered by Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Yee, not only is the risk of surgery lessened significantly, but the post-operative recovery period is much less taxing on the patient. Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Yee also perform corrective and reconstructive surgeries for many patients that have had less than optimal results elsewhere or who need implant replacements.
